On 13 to 15 October, Crown Towers in Sydney fills up with some of the biggest names in Australian gold. Liberty Bullion is proud to be the Thursday sponsor of the 2026 Australian Gold Conference, and I'll be there for all of it.
If you've ever wanted to put a face to a stock you own, ask a chief executive a straight question, or just soak up a few days of people who live and breathe this sector, this is the event for it.
It's also a bit personal for me this year. I'm up for the Rising Star award, which celebrates an outstanding emerging professional shaping the future of Australia's gold industry. Whatever happens at the awards dinner, I'm honoured to be in the mix.
That's a clip from my talk at the Gold Coast edition of the conference earlier this year, where I walked through why debt and inflation leave gold and silver as one of the few ways out. I'll be building on that theme on stage in Sydney.
Where to find me: Thursday 15 October, 8:35am
I'm giving a keynote presentation on the Thursday morning at 8:35am, in the Pearl Ballroom on Level 5. As Thursday sponsor, Liberty Bullion will have a presence throughout the day, so come and say hello if you spot me in the crowd.
My talk is the big-picture view from a bullion dealer's side of the counter. Most of the room will be focused on the shares. I'll be speaking about the metal itself, and why physical gold and silver belong in the conversation alongside the miners.
This is not financial advice. This is insight into what I do with my own money, not a recommendation for what you should do with yours.
The Rick Rule panel: Wednesday 14 October, 1:30pm
If there's one session I'd circle in the agenda, it's the panel on valuing projects and assessing risk. Rick Rule, founder and CEO of Rule Investment Media, has more than 50 years in the securities business and is the headline keynote across the conference. He'll be joined by:
- John Forwood, Lowell Resources
- Chris Pitman, Ausenco
- Glen Diemar, Australian Gold & Copper
The question on the table is one every resource investor wrestles with: how do you assess a project from the studies a company publishes? Hearing seasoned investors and engineers pull that apart in real time is worth the ticket on its own.
David Bird and Tung Nguyen: how to spot a commodity bull market
On Wednesday at 11:00am, David Bird and Tung Nguyen are presenting "How to Identify a Commodity Bull Market: Where Are We in the Cycle?" The idea running through it is that commodity bull markets don't begin when everyone is talking about them.
David, also known as the ASX Trader, runs Mastering the Markets and is one of the sharpest technical analysts in the country. I sat down with him at the Gold Coast conference to talk through the commodity supercycle, and it's well worth a watch before you see him in Sydney.
Alex Scanlon of Barton Gold will be there too
Alex Scanlon, Managing Director and CEO of Barton Gold, is also attending. Barton is a South Australian gold developer on the verge of becoming a producer, and Alex is one of the most engaging people in the sector to talk to. Here's the conversation we had with him at the Gold Coast conference.
Why everyday investors should be in the room
Most people only ever meet the companies they invest in through an announcement or a chart. The Australian Gold Conference flips that. You've got more than 40 ASX-listed companies presenting, and the directors and CEOs behind the stocks are walking the same floor as you.
It isn't only a mining event, either. Bullion dealers, refiners and market analysts are there as well, with sponsors including Liberty Bullion, Ausenco, Vantage Markets, ABC Bullion and PMT Refinery. That mix is the point. You can hear about the shares, the physical metal and the macro picture all in the one place, and then ask questions face to face.
For an everyday investor, that kind of access is rare. Spending a few days around the people running the projects tells you more about a company than any amount of reading, and the conversations over coffee are often the best part.
Book your ticket
The conference runs from 13 to 15 October at Crown Towers Sydney. Standard tickets are open until 13 October, with a higher door price after that, so it pays to book your ticket now. There's also a black-tie Gala Awards Dinner on the Tuesday night as a separate add-on, and Crown Towers has special group rates for accommodation.
I'd love to see you there. Come and find me, say g'day, and tell me what you're watching in gold and silver.
What a time to be alive.
Sam from Liberty Bullion.
